چکیده

The structural properties of the completely positive semidefinite cone CS+, consisting of all the n×n symmetric matrices that admit a Gram representation by positive semidefinite matrices of any size, are investigated. This cone has been introduced to model quantum graph parameters as conic optimization problems. Recently it has also been used to characterize the set Q of bipartite quantum correlations, as projection of an affine section of it. Two main results are shown in this paper concerning the structure of the completely positive semidefinite cone, namely, about its interior and about its closure. On the one hand, a hierarchy of polyhedral cones covering the interior of CS+ is constructed, which is used for computing some variants of the quantum chromatic number by way of a linear program. On the other hand, an explicit description of the closure of the completely positive semidefinite cone is given, by showing that it consists of all matrices admitting a Gram representation in the tracial ultraproduct of matrix algebras.

Conic Approach to Quantum Graph Parameters Using Linear Optimization Over the Completely Positive Semidefinite Cone

We investigate the completely positive semidefinite cone CS+, a new matrix cone consisting of all n×n matrices that admit a Gram representation by positive semidefinite matrices (of any size). In particular, we study relationships between this cone and the completely positive and the doubly nonnegative cone, and between its dual cone and trace positive non-commutative polynomials. We use this n...

Copositive and semidefinite relaxations of the quadratic assignment problem

Semidefinite relaxations of the quadratic assignment problem (QAP ) have recently turned out to provide good approximations to the optimal value of QAP . We take a systematic look at various conic relaxations of QAP . We first show that QAP can equivalently be formulated as a linear program over the cone of completely positive matrices. Since it is hard to optimize over this cone, we also look ...

LMI Approximations for Cones of Positive Semidefinite Forms

An interesting recent trend in optimization is the application of semidefinite programming techniques to new classes of optimization problems. In particular, this trend has been successful in showing that under suitable circumstances, polynomial optimization problems can be approximated via a sequence of semidefinite programs. Similar ideas apply to conic optimization over the cone of copositiv...

On Reformulations of Nonconvex Quadratic Programs over Convex Cones by Set-semidefinite Constraints

The well-known result stating that any non-convex quadratic problem over the nonnegative orthant with some additional linear and binary constraints can be rewritten as linear problem over the cone of completely positive matrices (Burer, 2009) is generalized by replacing the nonnegative orthant with an arbitrary closed convex cone. This set-semidefinite representation result implies new semidefi...

Optimization over Structured Subsets of Positive Semidefinite Matrices via Column Generation

We develop algorithms to construct inner approximations of the cone of positive semidefinite matrices via linear programming and second order cone programming. Starting with an initial linear algebraic approximation suggested recently by Ahmadi and Majumdar, we describe an iterative process through which our approximation is improved at every step. This is done using ideas from column generatio...
